A 23-year-old Northampton woman who authorities said threw a bloody tampon into a crowd of President Donald Trump supporters during a rally in October was placed on pretrial probation after a hearing in court Wednesday.
The group of supporters were part of a rally in Northampton on Oct. 18.
Northampton police arrested Brooke Wallis after the incident and she appeared in Northampton District Court through Zoom on Wednesday.
After the incident, Wallis was charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon and disorderly. The Northwestern District Attorney’s office dropped the assault charge.
During Wednesday’s hearing, Wallis was placed on pretrial probation for four months the disorderly conduct charge. She must complete 30 hours of community service and avoid further legal trouble, the district attorney’s office said.
Other Trump rallies have caused unrest in Northampton this fall.
In November, supporters of Trump who had rallied in the morning clashed with counter-protesters who gathered to oppose them, police said.
By the end of the day, according to police, a vehicle was driven through a crowd, several protestors were pepper-sprayed and an officer was pushed to the ground by demonstrators, according to police.
No arrests were made, and minimal injuries were reported during this time, authorities said.
