Bears now control their 2020 playoff destiny - Windy City Gridiron

With the San Francisco 49ers 20 to 12 win over the Arizona Cardinals, the Chicago Bears now control their own playoff destiny.

If they win on Sunday and then again week 17 against the Green Bay Packers, they’re guaranteed to punch their ticket to the NFC playoffs. Depending on the outcomes of the Rams vs Seahawks week 16 game, and the Cardinals vs Rams week 17 game, the Bears would either be the 6 or the 7 seed.

In order to get the 6th seed, the Bears would need to finish in a 3 way tie at 9-7 with the Rams and the Cardinals. That would then make the Cardinals the 7th seed, with the Rams out of the playoffs.

If the Bears go 1-1 in their next two games, there’s still a chance they make it as the 7th seed, but they would need the Cardinals to lose in that week 17 game.

The playoffs seemed like such a long shot when the Bears lost their 6th straight game to fall to fall to 5-7, but Matt Nagy has his team in the driver’s seat for their second playoff appearance in his three years on the job.

For those that are hoping the Packers have nothing to play for in their week 17 game in Chicago, that would take a Packer win on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans and a Rams win over Seattle tomorrow. If that happens the Packers would clinch the #1 seed in the NFC.

I have my doubts that Green Bay would lie down and give the Bears an easier path to the playoffs by benching all their key starters, but I wouldn’t be mad if Aaron Rodgers was in street clothes on January 3.
