Control Writer Teases Remedy Fans With Draft Of Next Game’s Story - Screen Rant

A draft of the script for the next Remedy game has been teased by writer and creative director Sam Lake, who did the story for Control and Alan Wake. The two games were merged back in August when Remedy announced that they took place in the same shared universe, and that more games in that universe would be coming in the future. To make this combination official, Remedy released a DLC for Control that actually featured characters from Alan Wake and which expanded significantly on the story of that initial thriller.

A hint of a script is one of the most promising things Control fans have had on their plates lately. The game was mired in some recent controversy considering its jump to next-gen consoles. Publisher 505 Games informed fans that in order to enjoy the mind-bending shooter on PS5 or Xbox Series X they would need to purchase the Ultimate Edition, a special version of the game which released well after launch with all DLC content included. Fans who bought the game closer to release were, apparently, out of luck. Into the atmosphere of disappointment that followed came a surprising revelation when 505 started accidentally upgrading non-Ultimate versions of the game, apparently contradicting itself. Finally, the next-gen version was delayed altogether, and is now aiming toward a release in February (for digital copies) and March (for physical ones).

Fans frustrated by all this controversy can instead look to the future, because a new Remedy game is in the works. Sam Lake shared a photo on Twitter of himself holding a stack of papers which he identified as a draft of the story for "the next big Remedy game." The draft is facing away from the camera, and no text is visible, so fans aren't able to glean any details from the text. Technically it's possible that Lake is holding a pile of blank papers and playing an awful prank, but that seems largely pointless. It remains to be seen if this game is the next one to be set in the shared universe of Control and Alan Wake, a long anticipated Max Payne sequel, or something entirely new.

Fans will have to wait for more details about this mysterious title, but one never knows when more news will arrive. Recently the League of Legends community was surprised when Riot designer Greg Street casually informed a fan that a LoL MMO was in development. Perhaps Remedy fans will get similarly lucky, and Sam Lake's Tweet will just up and tell fans what kind of game it is. It's more likely that they'll have to wait for a proper reveal trailer, though.

Both Control and Alan Wake resonated with fans for their strange, otherworldly elements and bizarre monsters. Control in particular is selling like hotcakes, in part thanks to its explosive and delightful combat, though it still hasn't surpassed the success of Alan Wake. Remedy's mind-bending stories are becoming its staple. Hopefully this mysterious new script will live up to the proud reputation of Alan Wake and Control.
