Devin Bush: 'It's my Twitter, so (the Steelers) can't control it' - TribLIVE

Available to the media for the first time since igniting an online brouhaha with a flurry of midsummer Twitter posts that ranged from the bizarre to the disturbing, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Devin Bush was largely unapologetic.

Asked if he felt like he made some fans angry with his tweets — including one that featured a video in which a cat fell several stories to the ground — Bush said, “I don’t know. I really don’t.”

“I don’t know if they’re real fans to be honest with you,” he said. “I’ve seen a lot of people that I don’t know. So I don’t know.”

Bush’s commentary written in association with the cat video was, “The only time I seen a cat not land on its feet (oh my God)!!” Some of Bush’s other rants over the July 4 weekend included the meaning of marriage and the need for divorce, and discussing his fear of God more than death.

By July 7, Bush’s tweets made it seem as if he was being muted by someone, presumably with the Steelers. Messages of his read, “Man see y’all done got me in trouble” and, “I get 2 tweets a day now so I gotta make it count or else,” followed three hours later by, “I went over my limits today. Them boys sent me a fine.”

But on Monday when Bush was asked if anyone associated with the Steelers told him to watch what he says online, Bush said: “No, not that I remember. It’s my Twitter, so they can’t control it.”

Bush also said teammates who’d reached out during his tweetstorm were just “checking up on” him and asking how he was doing.

On July 13, Bush posted a message that read “Welcome to the mind of a psycho.” Veteran defensive captain Cameron Heyward responded, “Calm your (rear end) down.”

Bush on Monday spoke of the respect he has for Heyward, a two-time first-team All Pro nine years his senior. The fathers of the two men played together in the 1990s with the Atlanta Falcons, and the younger Bush and Heyward have grown close as teammates.

Bush said Heyward talks to him in person just like he does on social media.

“Cam has been doing this for a long time, Cam has been here for a long time,” Bush said. “All Pro, Pro Bowl, one of the figures in the league, and who doesn’t want to be like that? So, we talk. He knows what he’s talking about.”
