The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Second Education (BESE) adjourned a public meeting at the Louisiana State Capitol just before noon Wednesday, Aug. 18 due to non-compliance from the audience.

The meeting was in response to Attorney General Jeff Landry’s letter on COVID-19 protocols in school.

BESE members said they were adjourning the meeting because members of the audience refused to wear masks and remain calm.

Many of the parents who attended the meeting to protest the state’s required COVID-19 protocols for schools, such as mask wearing, were outraged when the meeting adjourned.

The meeting started at 9 a.m. but the board stepped out of the meeting and went into an executive session at 11 a.m. to handle other agenda items.
