A Houston nightclub has come under fire after a viral video surfaced this week showing a packed, maskless crowd dancing during a performance from Atlanta-based rapper Gucci Mane.
Social media posts from the establishment show the nightclub in the video is The Address, located at 3333 Raleigh Street in south Houston. XXL Magazine, a hip-hop and music culture outlet, shared a video of Gucci Mane's performance to the crowd on Twitter Monday night: "Gucci Mane packed out a club in Houston last night."

The Address said in a statement provided to the Houston Chronicle that "local, county and state guidelines were in place and executed." The club also announced that it will offer free, drive-thru COVID testing by online appointment only.

State and local leaders have said that despite the arrival and distribution of the first COVID-19 vaccine in Houston this week, the pandemic is far from over. As of Tuesday morning, there are 1,490,565 cases in Texas, including 24,378 deaths, and 302,510 cases in the Houston region. More than 16.5 million Americans have been infected by the virus and more than 300,000 have died.
As winter quickly approaches, Texas is heading into another surge. The state added 32,909 new cases just on Monday, according to a Houston Chronicle analysis of state data. Last week, hospitals in the Texas Medical Center exceeded base ICU capacity for the first time since the summer.
The White House is calling on Texas leaders to issue more restrictions to help curb the spike here that some are calling "the worst surge in COVID cases that the country has seen." Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has previously said he would not issue another lockdown.
Despite the troubling COVID trends, packed nightclubs and bars are almost commonplace in Houston now. Houston firefighter Jason Griggs recently told the Houston Chronicle that in areas such as Washington Avenue, the nightlife is still going “full throttle, with not a mask in sight."
