Police made eight arrests Monday after crowds swarmed Seaside Heights to see YouTube personalities known as the Nelk Boys, who were staying at the “Jersey Shore” house made famous by the MTV show.

A small crowd initially gathered at the Broadwalk residence, rented by the Nelk Boys, and an off-duty officer was on-hand to work with the group’s security, according to a borough police spokesman. The crowd soon swelled to at least 1,500 largely maskless people. The group’s videos often involve a stunt, and promote their merchandise “drop.”

As officers made an arrest for a disorderly persons offense outside the Jersey Shore rental home, some in the crowd hurled glass bottles and rocks at police around 7:30 p.m., Detective Steve Korman said.

In addition to that rowdy gathering, a car club called Full Send NJ attracted a crowd of about 1,000 fans near Dupont and Ocean Terrace around 8:30 p.m., police said.

Seaside Heights police called for backup from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, county sheriff’s office, Bay Head, Mantoloking, Lavallette, Brick, Toms River, Seaside Park, Island Heights and Berkley police, Korman said. Local firefighters and emergency medical services also responded.

“Chief Thomas J. Boyd ordered the town to be closed off to non-resident traffic until this incident was brought under control,” the spokesman said.

The arrests included men between 18 and 26 years old from Hackettstown, Linden, Toms River, Kearney, Avenel and Brick. The crowds were dispersed by around midnight.

The Nelk Boys, who are from Canada, are Gen Zers Jesse Sebastiani, Kyle Forgeard and Steve Deleonardis. YouTube temporarily “demonetized” them after they allegedly threw parties at Illinois State University, creating a “public health risk,” according to a BuzzFeed report. The trio previously protested COVID-19 restrictions in Los Angeles, in a stunt where they led a crowd in an “open the gyms” chant.

The Nelk boys were not among those charged by police
