SALT LAKE CITY – With RSL trailing 1-0 early, Sergio Córdova gave the club life with a right-footed goal from the top of the box to tie the game 1-1.
Real Salt Lake (9-7-7, 34 points) hosted Western Conference leading LAFC (15-3-4, 48 points) at Rio Tinto Stadium on in front of a record-setting crowd on Saturday, August 6.
After a deflating ninth minute LAFC goal from Cristian Arango, RSL refused to fold.

An LAFC opening 10-minute offensive blitz yielded a goal but Córdova answered when Andrew Brody dropped off a pass to the forward. On his second touch, Córdova blasted the ball past LAFC goalkeeper Erik Holt.
The goal was Córdova’s fifth of the season, tying him for the team lead with with Jefferson Savarino. Brody notched his fourth assist on the play.
What’s On The Line
LAFC currently sits atop the Western Conference and boasts the most points in the league through the opening 22 games. They lead second-placed Austin by four points in the Western Conference.
Conversely, Real Salt Lake fallen on the conference table over the last two months and finds itself in the 5th position on 35 points. RSL is just one point shy of FC Dallas and one point clear of Nashville in a tightly contested western conference race for a playoff position.

Though not expected to be available for a matter of weeks, still noteworthy is Real Salt Lake acquired players during the secondary transfer window which concluded at 10 p.m. on Thursday, August 4. LAFC forward Danny Musovski, Nottingham Forest midfielder Braian Ojeda, and Costa Rican international Bryan Oviedo were announced this week.

Gareth Bale is available off the bench for the first time in his professional career in Utah after recently joining LAFC.
