Right out of the gate, the big addition to Apex Legends in season 12—along with the new character Mad Maggie—has been the Control LTM. This 9v9 battle for control across a wide map has been well-received by Apex Legends players, meaning today, February 28, is a sad day. It’s the last day available for Control, as it’ll exit the game on March 1.
This means anyone who loves Control needs to get all the time they can today, but many have called for Control to be permanent. There are a few improvements that it could, and players have not been shy with their ideas for Control in Apex Legends. Luckily, while how Control is improved remains to be seen, the fact that it is bodes well for the game.
Control is being removed so that the Respawn Entertainment team responsible for it can make a few adjustments, improvements, and overall make it better. At least, this is the reasoning according to Respawn Entertainment Producer Josh Medina. This perked the ears of a fan online, who asked if Control would be making a comeback.
Medina’s response was a simple GIF from The Other Guys. That film features Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg in the lead, but the big macho cops at the beginning of it are played by Sam L Jackson and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The GIF features the latter speaking into a microphone to say, “No comment…But YES.” This can reasonably be taken to mean that Control is likely, if not really guaranteed, to return.
When it does, there’s likely a ton of Apex Legends players who want Control to be permanent. It’s pure chaotic fun, changes the dynamic of the popular FPS, and helps expand it beyond its battle royale limitations—just like Arenas. Indeed, many fans want more game modes in Apex, and it’s reached a size where server capacity for battle royale games are not likely to be an issue if more game modes appear.
In fact, there’s been rumors lately of a more traditional Team Deathmatch or Free-For-All game mode coming to Apex Legends. There’s been no official word on it from Respawn Entertainment, but the company has long said that it believes Apex can expand beyond the battle royale sphere. It certainly can, and more game modes is certainly one way to do that.
Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. Mobile is available in some regions; PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
