Facing a public health crisis and political meltdown, Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro is raging out of control.
At least that’s what appears on leaked portions of a video that shows the right-wing leader of Latin America’s largest country denouncing political rivals as “sh-t” and calling the governor of Rio de Janeiro state a pile of “manure,” according to The Guardian.
“I’m not going to wait for [the federal police] to f–k my family and friends just for sh-ts and giggles,” says Bolsonaro during the expletive-laden video, portions of which were made public by the attorney general’s office last week. The statement, made at a private meeting of government ministers on April 22, is in reference to police inquiries involving the president’s own family.
A day after the leaks, Brazil’s health minister resigned after less than a month on the job. Nelson Teich had criticized a ruling made by Bolsonaro which allowed gyms and beauty parlors to reopen during the coronavirus pandemic.
Teich is the second health minister to lose his job. His predecessor, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, was fired last month after he warned residents to stay indoors and observe social-distancing rules. More than 14,000 Brazilians have died from COVID-19 in the country.
