Remote control: Coronavirus convinced many that working from home beats the office - The Dallas Morning News

After weeks and months of working remotely, how do office workers feel about heading back to the office?

Most of them say they are just fine continuing to work at home even though states are relaxing shelter-in-place orders.

Hana, the coworking arm of commercial property firm CBRE, surveyed more than 1,000 office workers around the country.

A whopping 99% of people who have been working away from the office because of the COVID-19 pandemic say there are positives about staying at home.

More than 60% said it saves them money, and 55% are glad not to have commutes to the office.

Of the people surveyed by the Harris Poll group, 56% said they want the flexibility of staying out of the office after the pandemic subsides.

“Employees are looking to the office as a place to meaningfully connect with colleagues, yet desire more flexible work benefits,” Andrew Kupiec, CEO of Hana, said in the report. “To satisfy this demand, organizations should consider enabling flexible working schedules while continuing to offer an office environment for collaboration and meetings with colleagues.”

While workers are happy at home, more than 90% say there are some things they miss about being in the office.

They mentioned interaction with other employees and collaboration as positives of the in-office experience. Some home workers also miss their office fitness classes and events.

Even when employees eventually make it back to the office, they shouldn’t expect things to be like the pre-pandemic days.

More than three-fourths of financial firm executives surveyed last month by PricewaterhouseCoopers said they plan to change workplace safety measures and requirements. And 65% said they would reconfigure worksites to promote physical distancing.

More than half of the CFOs surveyed said they plan to change shifts and/or alternate crews to reduce exposure to the virus.
