A grand jury has indicted a South Jersey woman after she allegedly drove her car into a crowd of people and injured three teenagers last year.

However, the woman no longer faces attempted murder charges in the case.

Mikayla A. Rodriguez-Green, 21, of Pilesgrove in Salem County, was involved in a dispute with her child’s father on Oct. 17, 2022, at Hollybush Apartments in Glassboro, according to investigators.

Police responding to a call about a large fight in the Gloucester County complex arrived to find 50 to 60 people in the street yelling and screaming, according to the affidavit of probable cause filed in the case.

The reason for the melee wasn’t described in court documents, but an officer allegedly saw Rodriguez-Green drive off in her car, traveling over a curb and into a crowd of teenagers.

Three girls between the ages of 13 and 16 were struck and suffered non-life threatening injuries, including a broken ankle, sprains and bruises, police said.

Rodriguez-Green allegedly tried to drive off, but was stopped by police.

The dispute with her baby’s father involved a vape device, a prosecutor said in court last year.

“She had just dropped off her 3-month-old baby to the baby’s father and it became an argument, not because of the baby, but about her vape being taken by the individual,” Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Jacqueline Caban said.

Rodriguez-Green allegedly told police she wanted to hit her baby’s father with her car, but that he was not in sight “and she just wanted to hit someone,” according to the prosecutor.

The woman told police she ran into the teens intentionally, Caban said in court.

Rodriguez-Green’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request to comment on the indictment.

While she was originally charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder, a Gloucester County grand jury did not indict her on that charge in September.

Instead, she was indicted on three counts each of second-degree criminal attempt/aggravated assault and third-degree aggravated assault.

While prosecutors asked a judge to keep her jailed pending trial last year, calling her a danger to the public, Rodriguez-Green’s public defender argued that her client would seek mental health support if released.

The judge placed her on home detention, permitting her to leave her residence only to go to work, medical appointments or court hearings.

He also ordered a mental health evaluation and that she follow through on any directed treatment.

She’s due back in court next week for a hearing.
