At the Hungarian Grand Prix Tuesday, Amarissa Toth raised her fists in triumph. It was the peculiar move seen ‘round Tennis Twitter, as the 20-year-old celebrated immediately after Zhang Shuai finished shaking hands following her mid-match retirement in Budapest brought on by an apparent panic attack.

For Toth, the moment marked her first official WTA match win. By Thursday, there was no more celebrating to be had by the world No. 548 at the 250-level event.

Baindl saved five of the six break points she faced.

Kateryna Baindl stormed past Toth with a 6-3, 6-1 dismissal after 78 minutes of play to breeze into the quarterfinals. Baindl broke five times from nine opportunities with a 61 percent success rate against her opponent's first serve to send a local wild card packing for the second straight round (she defeated Natalia Szabanin in her opener).

“Today they were fair. I hope that they can stay fair, and Zhang Shuai feels better,” Baindl began when addressing the crowd in an on-court interview. “Hopefully she is getting better and soon, we’ll see her back. She’s an unbelievable player, very respectful and a great person. There’s a lot to learn from her. We should stay all respectful to each other.”

The Ukrainian can make it three for three if she gets past Fanny Stollar. A day earlier, Stollar saved two match points against fifth seed Tatjana Maria, clinching the final four points of their second-round contest to prevail, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (6).

Baindl has been ranked as high as No. 62.

Baindl, who comes in ranked at No. 100 this week, is looking to reach her first tour-level final since making her maiden appearance at Taipei in February 2018. Stollar is currently ranked No. 441.

Elina Avanesyan also silenced the home crowd when she blitzed Hungary’s Anna Bondar, 6-3, 6-0. The No. 6 seed gets ninth seed Nadia Podoroska Friday. The Argentine dispatched Anna Siskova of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 6-0.
