POLICE have said an investigation is underway after a crowd of people removed insignia relating to the South East Antrim UDA from a housing estate in Newtownards.
A PSNI spokesperson said up to 50 people gathered in the Weaver's Grange area on Thursday evening, before items including plaques and murals were removed.
The estate has been the site of incidents relating to an ongoing loyalist feud in the Ards and North Down area in recent weeks.
Police responded to reports that a crowd began gathering in the area shortly after 8pm.
PSNI Superintendent Johnston McDowell said: "Police evidence gathering resources were already present and additional police resources were immediately tasked to the area.
"Within 15 minutes a further crowd of more than 50 people had arrived on foot into Weavers Grange."
He said there was "no disorder" during the gathering, "but the crowd had ladders and removed South East Antrim UDA insignia from the gable ends of houses before leaving".
Superintendent McDowell added: "An investigation is now underway."
