Salvation Army prepares for a big crowd for Thanksgiving meal - KSNB Local 4

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Thanksgiving day is right around the corner, and Wednesday, Hastings Salvation Army spent their afternoon getting ready to welcome their guests for tomorrow’s holiday dinner.

This is their 37th year holding the event, where anyone in the community is invited out to enjoy a free meal provided through the nonprofit, along with other sponsors, businesses and organizations, who came together to make a difference.

“It’s the community coming out and supporting and knowing that things are going different and that we needed the assistance and so, they just stepped up and made it possible,” said Salvation Army Major Dale Bradenburg.

They planned to give out to-go boxes filled with traditional Thanksgiving dishes such as turkey, corn, mashed potatoes, a dinner roll and, of course — dessert.

Bradenburg added, they expected quite a big crowd tomorrow, hearing that a number of local news and radio stations were receiving countless calls asking about the meal. The salvation army were inviting the community to start lining up at 11 a.m. At the Adams County Fairgrounds.

“It’s a tradition that started 30-some years ago and a lot of people look forward to it, they are some families that just can’t afford to put together a Thanksgiving meal, especially with today’s prices,” he said.

The Salvation Army volunteers planned to hand out the Thanksgiving dinners until 1 p.m. Thursday or until the food ran out.
