The Kansas City Chiefs are going through a rough start to the season, with a 3-4 record through seven games. Fresh off of an embarrassing loss last Sunday to the Tennessee Titans, Kansas City will look to rebound at home in front of a national audience for “Monday Night Football” against the New York Giants.

The Giants and Chiefs don’t play each other often but share similar qualities, with loyal fanbases and an extensive football legacy. Several players have worn both uniforms, and one of them recently shared his thoughts on the team. Former Chiefs and Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes, who won two Super Bowls with New York, is the host of the NY Post Giants podcast “Blue Rush.”  During the most recent episode, Tynes spoke on Kansas City’s record-breaking crowd noise level at Arrowhead Stadium and how tough it’ll be on the Giants.

“What number comes to mind? It’s 142. Do you know what that is? That’s the decibel level, The Guinness Book of World Records that they broke in 2014,” Tynes said. “142 decibels, so it’s just like a 747 taking off. That place I played in Seattle, not when they were the Russell Wilson Seattle Seahawks, and that place is loud. But this is a world record for a reason. There are no roofs, there’s no piped-in noise, this place is electric. And a lot of Giant fans can think back on the old Meadowlands. The stadium is very, very similar. It’s built straight up, it doesn’t go back. Same architects, HOK Architects. I don’t know why I know that. But I do. And they’re based out of Kansas City. The stadium is electric. Monday Night Football. A wounded beat-up, media’s talking bad, fans are talking bad about this football team in Kansas City. It’s gonna be a tough night. I’m telling you what this team’s got, Patrick Mahomes. You’ve got star players on the offense. It’s gonna be a tough night for the Giants.”

Tynes had two stints with the Chiefs in the early 2000s but became iconic while as a member of the Giants for making two NFC Championship-clinching kicks to send the team on their way to two Super Bowl titles. Even though he had tremendous success in New York, he still calls Kansas City home. He has a few takes on the team’s recent issues too.

“They’re struggling no doubt about it and close friends of ours, Steve Spagnuolo, Dave Meritt, Sam Madison coach that defense. The thing the Chiefs aren’t getting, and I live here, so I watch them a little bit is Chris Jones and Frank Clark, they’re two premier $25 million a year players are getting no pressure,” said Tynes. “Spags his defense is based off the front four generating pressure. He blitzes about 30% of the time, but they just are not getting any pressure on the quarterback. The offense is fine, I feel like they’re pressing a little bit because they know they have to score 30-something points. I mean, the defense is, like you said, given up 29 points a game, they are averaging 27. The Chiefs, on the flip side of that, are giving up 26 and scoring 20, So this is a kind of a game as we get through and do our picks. I mean, there could be a lot of points scored, but Patrick Mahomes is still Patrick Mahomes.”

Tynes has a lot of faith in the Chiefs’ star QB Patrick Mahomes as he should, but he’s right on the money with Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. They need to be getting more production out of their pass rush, and until that happens, it’s hard to see much changing for this team on that side of the ball.
