BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. — The popular local “The Way We Were” Car Show once again drew a crowd of car enthusiasts on Sunday for the festival’s 19th year.

About 400 automobiles of all different styles and eras lined the streets of downtown Ballston Spa, where people came to admire the wide variety of vehicles.

A red, eight-cylinder 1966 Sunbeam Tiger, manufactured by the British Rootes Group, was one of the more rare sights at the car show.

Owner Dan Eldredge of Saratoga Springs restored the car about three years ago, and though he doesn’t show it often, he decided to enter the Tiger in Sunday’s competition.

“It’s a nice day to come out,” he said of the event as passersby admired the vehicle, which was designed in part by American car designer and racing driver Carroll Shelby.

Live music by Betsy and the ByeGons, food and merchandise vendors and children’s activities were also part of the day’s festivities.

In addition to showcasing cars, the Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association event encourages attendees to explore the village of Ballston Spa and its many small businesses. Area shops and restaurants typically report a major boost in sales on the day of the show.

Both contestants and attendees eagerly anticipate the car show each fall, and after a canceled event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic folks were extra excited for Sunday’s comeback.

“It’s a wonderful event,” said BSBPA representative Donna Dardaris, who serves on the car show’s leadership team. “A lot of people enjoy it so much and look forward to it every year, and we’re happy that we can bring it to them.”

The car show also serves and an important fundraiser for the BSBPA, which is a non-profit community organization. Proceeds from the festival help sponsor other community events it hosts throughout the year such as live concerts, movie nights and the annual holiday parade.

Next year, the beloved  “The Way We Were” Car Show will celebrate its 20th anniversary. The event is traditionally held on the Sunday of Columbus Day Weekend.
