Throughout Control, you make your way through the Oldest House, fighting hiss and witnessing some bizarre things. The game's combination of compelling storytelling and fun combat makes it one of the best titles Remedy has ever developed.
Control's story doesn't do much slowing down, and it virtually has no filler, as each big moment leads you towards the next. So, compared to some of the biggest games on the market, it's quite a brief adventure, especially if you're only focused on experiencing the narrative. Using the player data gathered by HowLongToBeat, here is the average length of this Metroidvania-type game.
How Long Does It Take To Beat Control?
Completing The Main Story
The story of Control is a fascinating one, so it's understandable if you're desperate to see how everything comes together. A playthrough where your attention is solely on the narrative will take around 11 hours. However, the average player is likely going to be distracted by side content on several occasions. Therefore, if you want to play a few of the best side missions and do various other optional things, you're looking at more of a 16-hour run.
Full Completionist Run
Any completionists who play Control will discover that there is plenty to do in the Oldest house. Along with additional missions, there are many collectibles to find and achievements or trophies to earn. Plus, not all of the game's boss fights occur during the main story, as some of the best are optional. To do all of this and everything else in the game, you will need to set aside at least 26 hours. Yet, if you like to take your time, it could end up being a 66-hour playthrough.
How Long Does It Take To Beat Control's DLCs?
Since Control's launch, Remedy has released three pieces of major DLC for the game. This is how long each one takes to complete:
- Expeditions - This DLC doesn't include a specific story to finish. Instead, you go into the Quarry Site Beta area and complete sets of activities. Some of them are very difficult, so your completion time may depend on your skill level. Yet, on average, players can take between one to four hours to beat them all.
- The Foundation - In The Foundation expansion, Jesse needs to head to the bottom of the Oldest House to stop a serious threat. The main story is around four hours, whereas to complete everything you'll need about seven hours.
- AWE - Jesse heads to the Investigations Sector during the AWE DLC. While there, the protagonist has to deal with several Altered World events. A playthrough where you just tackle the main narrative will take three hours or so. To fully complete the expansion, you'll need about seven hours.
