BIG RAPIDS – Things were rockin' Friday as the Pocket Park music series hosted Peter Jordan and His Fun-Lovin' Crowd in downtown Big Rapids.
Peter Jordan is a 73-year-old lifelong performer who also works as an attorney. He started up the band four years ago after he began organizing the band's casual jam sessions into something more official.
They began to be requested to play local venues, and Jordan said knowing which members will show up is a challenge for a group of older players.
“We’ve been playing together a long time and it’s always fun,” Jordan said. “We’re happy to see the sun come out and play for new faces and crowds.”
The band of almost 10 members has performed at several Pocket Park events before. Peter Jordan and His Fun Lovin' Crowd plays old country music because it’s the genre that many of the band members all grew up listening to.
The diversity of the band is what Jordan said makes the group unique. The band’s saxophone player is 86 and has played in front of three presidents. Two guitar players and singers are 79 and 78.
One Pocket Park attendee said they enjoy the pocket park series as it’s a more casual setting to enjoy music.
“The [Jordan’s] band is great and it’s a perfect day to be outdoors to enjoy some music and the downtown atmosphere,” they said. “I always like seeing local musicians come out to entertain the crowds on nice days like this. It’s the perfect start to the holiday weekend.”

• July 16: Bob Craig, rock/country mix
• July 23: Dave Yonker, contemporary Christian
• July 30 Christ Jane, easy listening
• Aug. 6: Dave's Solo Show, country folk rock
• Aug. 13: Balsam Brothers, progressive rock
• Aug. 20: White Elephant Records Presents, rock mix
• Aug. 27: Poppa Fish, acoustic classics
• Sept. 3: Darrell Marvel Band, old rock
Concerts run from noon to 2 p.m. and are held between between the Raven Brewing and BBQ and Chemical Bank buildings on Michigan Avenue in downtown Big Rapids.
