UPDATE 9 p.m.: The crowd is reportedly marching back down Penn Avenue.
UPDATE 8:45 p.m.: Our partners at TribLive.com report that police officers have several stretches of road shut down in East Liberty, Larimer and Shadyside due to the protest.
UPDATE 8:30 p.m.: The crowd has reportedly stopped in front of Mayor Bill Peduto’s house.
UPDATE 8 p.m.: There are rolling road closures as police units ahead of the crowd keep traffic at bay. The crowd is entering Mellon Park.
UPDATE 7:46 p.m.: The crowd is now marching up Penn Avenue toward Bakery Square.
Several dozen people gathered at the intersection of Centre and Penn avenues in East Liberty for a rally for Daunte Wright, the man shot and killed by a police officer in Minnesota.
Wright was shot and killed following a traffic stop outside of Minneapolis. The officer mistakenly grabbed her firearm instead of her Taser. She has since resigned from the force.
This comes at the same time as the ongoing trial of former officer Derek Chauvin, the man accused of killing George Floyd by kneeling on his neck for 8 minutes.
