VERNDALE — A semitrailer rolled over in the ditch on the driver’s side after the driver lost control, according to the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Mays was southbound on County Road 26 near 160th Street at about 3:37 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, but crossed over into the northbound lane before he went into the ditch.

The 32-year-old from Alabama indicated to sheriff’s deputies he lost control of the vehicle while going around the curve. The semitrailer was loaded with frozen food, so it took several hours to unload the cargo before it could be removed from the ditch.

Timeshia Wilkerson, 29, of Alabama, and two children were also in the semitrailer but were uninjured. Wilkerson was transported to Lakewood Health System for possible injuries.

The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Verndale fire and police departments and first responders, Minnesota State Patrol, Lakewood Health System ambulance and Farrington Towing of Park Rapids.
