Control Ultimate Edition's next-gen upgrade will take full advantage of PlayStation 5's myriad bells and whistles, meaning PS5 owners can expect extensive support of the console's DualSense features. The title's Ultimate Edition found itself mired in controversy just a handful of months ago, but will make its way to the latest consoles in less than one week's time.
Publisher 505 Games sits at the controversy's nexus, due to the manner in which Control Ultimate Edition rolled out relative to next-gen upgrades. The only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S owners who can access the upgrade for free are those who purchase Ultimate Edition on last-gen or current-gen consoles, thus leaving out early adopters - many of whom likely paid full price at launch. 505 clearly isn't backtracking, though, since the upgrade goes live as is on February 2.
505 Games recently updated its support page for Control Ultimate Edition, revealing the PS5 version will indeed receive DualSense support. Specifics are minimal, but the page at least confirms the controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers will be put to use. In addition, users can expect PS5's Activity Cards and Help functions to play a part in the Control experience. With regards to these features, the support page explains: "Cards and videos that help guide you through the game, and keep track of your progress."
Thus far, Sony's first-party studios have been the only ones to use the Activity Cards and Help features extensively, so it's neat that a third-party game will go the extra mile. In many respects, the same holds true for DualSense. Since PS5's arrival last holiday season, few games have supported DualSense to its fullest extent. Most that do, however, don't add distinguishable improvements until after launch. Such was the case with the likes of Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Dirt 5, both of which debuted the bulk of their DualSense features post-release.
PlayStation 5 owners with access to PlayStation Plus get the added bonus of Control Ultimate Edition appearing in the service's lineup of free games next month. Concrete Genie and Destruction AllStars count as part of the PS Plus freebies for February, as well.
Control Ultimate Edition is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One; the game's next-gen upgrade hits PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on February 2.
