CLEVELAND, Ohio — Five people suffered gunshot wounds during a vigil at a park in Cleveland’s Union-Miles neighborhood, police said.
The shooting happened about 8:30 p.m. Monday at Dove Park, according to police. Police made no arrests as of Tuesday afternoon.
Four men between the ages of 22 and 28, and a 38-year-old woman all suffered gunshot wounds, according to police. They drove themselves to nearby hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting happened at the same time as a vigil that drew some 200 people to the park, along with traditional park-goers enjoying cookouts and other gatherings, police said. Dozens scattered from the park after the gunfire erupted.
A man told police he was talking to a woman at a cookout when he saw a gray car pull up and a man open fire on the crowd, according to police. He suffered a gunshot in the foot.
Another man told police he was talking to a woman on the basketball court when a bullet struck him in the arm.
A man and woman told police they were attending the vigil when bullets struck them. A bullet hit the woman in the buttocks and the man in his right thigh.
Another man told police he was at a cookout when he heard the gunfire and realized he was shot in the left arm, according to police reports.
