Entangled in the strings of a large kite, a 3-year-old girl was lifted above the crowd at a festival in Taiwan Sunday.
The unidentified child was taking part in this year's International Kite Festival — which kicked off this past weekend at Nanliao Harbor in the northern city of Hsinchu, Taiwanese media reported.
Video shot at the scene shows the toddler twisting several times in the sky — accompanied by a giant, long-tailed, orange kite. Adults below struggled to pull the kite back to earth —but once the wind slowed down, the girl was safely recovered by the crowd on the ground.
News reports said the girl was frightened but safe — and suffered no major, physical injuries from the incident.
The Hsinchu city government suspended the festival shortly after, for public safety. Mayor Lin Chih-chien posted an apology on Facebook.
He said officials will review the circumstances of the accident to hold people accountable, and for the safety of future events.
