POINT PLEASANT BEACH — Not long after Gov. Phil Murphy lifted the stay-at-home order from March 21, a large crowd Tuesday streamed onto the beach and boardwalk in the borough.
Mayor Paul Kanitra said Tuesday night that police were dealing with the issue since people "were not social distancing."
The crowd started showing up around 2 p.m., Kanitra said.
"Law enforcement personnel have been called in from neighboring towns to ensure a calm and orderly (dispersal) of the crowd," the mayor said in a 9:15 p.m. statement. "We expect a full resolution over the next few hours."
Kanitra contradicted the statement made in the Instagram post below that there were four people arrested. The post was published around 7 p.m., according to the time stamp (Instagram does not provide specific post times. At 10:10 p.m., it read "Three hours ago.").
"To quell unfounded rumors, there have so far been no arrests made and no protests ongoing," he said, calling the gathering an "unannounced party."
The video in that post shows police leading a young black man away in handcuffs and a crowd of people following them, jeering and using their cell phones to record it.
"We are trying to keep the situation from becoming unmanageable," Kanitra said.
It did not appear to be a political gathering, he added.
Brick Police Department sent over 10 officers between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. as well as tactical medics, said Sgt. Jim Kelly of the Brick Police Department.

A Sheriff's Department drone was flying over the crowd, authorities said.
It "seemed to be a peaceful crowd, but they were all obviously from out of town and it appeared to be a coordinated gathering that was arranged under the police 's social media radar," wrote Kathy Moore in an e-mail to the Press. She lives on the north side of Ocean Avenue.
"It's quiet here," she wrote.
At 10:23 p.m., the mayor said the crowd was calmly dispersing.
