On my bucket list, in fact pretty high up my bucket list is a trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore.
That's why I did a double take when I saw a social media post from the governor of South Dakota vowing to protect the massive carving from anyone wanting to damage it.
We've all seen the video of statues being dragged down, or set on fire, monuments and even churches defaced with spray paint, but surely not Mount Rushmore.
Well, that tweet from Governor Kristi Noem was in response to a sarcastic hypothetical question raised by conservative podcaster Ben Shapiro, thankfully not to an actual threat that I'm aware of.
But it's no hypothetical that likenesses of the four Presidents carved into the Black Hills granite, Washington. Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt and Lincoln have been targeted for vandalism or removal by protesters rampaging through select cities.
The fact that South Dakota's governor even felt obliged to respond to a hypothetical against Mount Rushmore speaks to how out of control this historical destruction has gotten.
By the way, if it wasn't a target for vandals before, President Trump is scheduled to be at Mount Rushmore July 3.
I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
