Red Lobster customers were seeing red after a manager at a western Pa. store told customers waiting for takeout orders to cut bait and go away.
As KDKA in Pittsburgh reports, the Mother’s Day takeout failure left the Red Lobster all wet.
Dozens of Red Lobster patrons had placed takeout orders at a location just outside Pittsburgh, most paying for the food in advance.
But after waiting for their seafood that never seemed to show, the growing crowd of customers were sent home without their orders by an overwhelmed restaurant manager, the KDKA reports, adding:
It wasn’t just individuals and families who didn’t get their orders, it was delivery drivers losing time and money, the station wrote.
As the wait time grew longer, tempers grew shorter.
The Mother’s Day disappointment didn’t sit well with the close 100 people and their cars waiting for their orders, as this video clip shows:
The crowd got so big, police eventually responded -- and a good thing, too.
That’s because the Red Lobster manager finally broke the bad news, announcing the restaurant wouldn’t be fulfilling any more orders, KDKA reports. Needless to say, the news didn’t go over well.
“I blame Red Lobster,” customer John Morrison told KDKA. “They took way more orders than they could possibly fill. I put mine in at 10:30 this morning.”
As a result, Red Lobster now has a red face.
The company released this statement to KDKA:
“During these unprecedented times, we are grateful for our guests who continue to want to celebrate with Red Lobster. It’s always our goal to provide our guests with a great seafood experience, while also maintaining high standards for health and safety, including social distancing. We apologize that some of our guests experienced longer than anticipated wait times and crowds today and in some cases may have chosen not to wait for their orders. To Go orders placed on RedLobster.com that were pre-paid and not fulfilled will be refunded. Guests who placed an order through a third-party and would like to request a refund should reach out to the company through which the order was placed.”
