Portland’s mayor and police chief backed away from a proposed firing and instead gave police Sgt. Jeffrey McDaniel a 10-day unpaid suspension for violating professional conduct standards for his connection to an offensive slide placed at the end of a crowd control training presentation.
McDaniel, a 22-year Police Bureau veteran, also will be prohibited from creating or conducting any training related to crowd management for five years and must submit a letter of apology to the community within 30 days acknowledging the harm caused, according to the disciplinary letter signed Monday.
