Neo-Nazi protesters assembled outside a theater during Tuesday night's preview show of Broadway's 'Parade' revival.

Actor Ben Platt is publicly addressing the antisemitic protests that swarmed a Broadway theater this week.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 21, during the preview performance of Broadway's revival of Parade—a musical starring Platt in the true story of Leo Frank, a Jewish man who was falsely convicted and lynched in 1915.

As seen in videos circulating on Twitter, a group of Neo-Nazi protestors, reportedly from The National Socialist Movement, gathered outside Broadway's Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York City on Tuesday evening, calling Frank a "Jewish pedophile," and harassing patrons who came to see the show.

Platt, 29, took to Instagram after the performance to denounce the protestors and thank the theater staff for keeping everyone "super safe and secure," while disruptors gathered outside.

“For those who don’t know, there were a few Neo-Nazi protestors from a really disgusting group outside of the theater, bothering some of our patrons on their way in and saying antisemitic things about Leo Frank, who the show is about, and just spreading antisemitic rhetoric that led to this whole story in the first place,” he explained in the video, adding that the display of antisemitic rhetoric further emphasizes the importance for Frank's story to be told.

"It was definitely very ugly and scary, but a wonderful reminder of why we're telling this particular story and how special and powerful art, and, particularly, theater art can be," he said.

"Now is really the moment for this particular piece," added Platt.

Producers of the Broadway revival also released a statement in light of the incident, telling PEOPLE, "If there is any remaining doubt out there about the urgency of telling this story in this moment in history, the vileness on display tonight should put it to rest."

Following preview performances, the new production of Parade, directed by two-time Tony nominated Michael Arden, will officially open Thursday, March 16 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
