Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – It wasn't easy, but it certainly was a fulfilling night of volleyball at CU Arena on Thursday evening.

Senior Brianna Latigue recorded a school-record with 54 assists (most for CUI in NCAA DII era), Cassidy Gelacio collected a career-high 28 kills, and an energized home crowd helped the CUI women's volleyball team get past a pesky Northwest Nazarene by a count of 3-2.

Hannah Tostado hit a remarkable .542 on 24 swings to finish with 15 kills.  Freshman Kennedy Farley led CUI with 17 kills and added 19 digs for a very versatile performance.

Concordia raced out to a 2-0 lead by securing the first two stanzas, 25-22 and 25-14.  Latigue handed out 14 helpers in the second set alone, as CUI hit .310 in that second frame. Her 54 assists were the most for a CUI women's volleyball player over the past decade.  Angie Barkin holds the overall school record for most assists in a match which came during the NAIA days back in 1999.

Things hit a snag in the third and fourth sets as NNU bounced back with 25-19 and 25-18 wins to force a fifth set. But in that tiebreaking game, Tostado stepped up to lead the charge by placing four of her kills neatly inside the lines. CUI emerged 15-9 to clamp down the victory.

Danielle McCasland provided a spark with back-to-back kills at a critical stage in the fourth set. Even though NNU won that fourth set, her presence helped get the Eagles back on track. She finished with five kills and a block.

Patience O'Neal also contributed six kills in her first appearance of the season. Gelacio, Latigue, Farley and Kirra Schulz (17 digs) were all in double figures for digs and helped extend countless rallies that led to eventual points for the Eagles.

CUI faces Stanislaus State at 12 P.M. on Friday at a neutral site hosted by Cal State Dominguez Hills before returning home to play Cal State San Marcos on Saturday, Sept 11 at 6 P.M.
