Chagrin Falls man charged with shooting into crowd in Bainbridge Township neighborhood, police say - cleveland.com

BAINBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A 37-year-old Chagrin Falls man fired shots into a crowd of people in a Bainbridge Township neighborhood Sunday, police say.

Sherief Ahmed Hamdy faces a felonious assault charge in the incident that happened just after midnight near the intersection of Woodland Avenue and Huron Street, according to police and Chardon Municipal Court records.

Court records say Hamdy will make his initial court appearance Tuesday. He is currently in the Geauga County Jail. Hamdy’s bond amount was not immediately available.

Hamdy fired shots across the street in the direction of several people near the intersection, Bainbridge Township Police Chief Jon Bokovitz said. He added that there has not been any reported injuries.

Witnesses reported to police that Hamdy seemed agitated and that it appeared that he yelled at one of the people in the crowd. He ran from the intersection before police officers arrived.

Police are trying to speak to the person witnesses said Hamdy was targeting, but that person has yet to come forward, police said.

Officers searched Hamdy’s home Monday night and recovered several guns, including the gun investigators said Hamdy likely used in the shooting.
