Control: How to Unlock (& Upgrade) Weapons (The Fast Way) - Screen Rant

seliranga.blogspot.com

The award-winning game, Control is unique in many ways. Sure, it builds off standard third-person shooter mechanics in which players "control" Jesse Faden, the hero of this story, as she runs around a series of levels spending most of her time shooting people. But the story is a strange and supernatural one. Interspersed throughout the narrative is a series of eerie live-action sequences and the game—unlike many others—only has one location: an ominous shape-shifting building called the Oldest House. Eventually, Jesse Faden learns how to pick up objects with her mind and how to levitate. And all this time, she only uses a single gun.

Granted, that gun—the service weapon, as it's called in Control—can shift and change just like the Oldest House. It can become a shotgun, or a long-range rifle. It's pretty handy, but the player will have to upgrade it to unlock its full capabilities. This guide will explain how to unlock and upgrade the gun's various forms as easy as possible.

All Weapon Forms in Control

Control Service weapon

The service weapon in Control has five different forms. Each one can be unlocked at different points during the story. Once one of the forms in unlockable, the player will have to go to a Control Point and craft that form using source energy and differing sets of required materials.

Grip

Standard pistol: unlocked during "Welcome to the Oldest House," the first main story mission.

Shatter

Shotgun: unlocked during "Directorial Override," the third main story mission.

Spin

Sub-machine gun: unlocked at the end of "Directorial Override," the third main story mission.

Pierce

Sniper: unlocked during "Old Boys' Club," the fourth main story mission.

Charge

Rocket launcher: unlocked during "My Brother's Keeper," the sixth main story mission.

Players will pick up source energy and different materials as drops from various enemies and in containers. In general, it is always advisable to use source energy to craft new forms for the service weapon (as opposed to spending them on modifications), but every form does not need to be constructed to complete the game. However, it is recommended to construct shatter and pierce, as these are two very useful forms that can be used for vastly different kinds of situations.

How to Upgrade the Service Weapon in Control

In Control, players can upgrade the various weapon forms by applying different mods (modifications) to their weapon. The player will pick up mods throughout the game by killing enemies and as rewards for completing side missions. It is not recommended to spend source energy to get randomized mods through the Astral Constructs menu. Instead, to get more (and more valuable mods), complete Board Countermeasures and Bureau Alerts to earn more mods. Bureau Alerts are especially great for getting the rarest mods.

Players can decide for themselves which mods to use on their weapon forms, but the game will indicate the rarity of the mod (the rarer one is, the more useful it usually will be). Players can also upgrade each form for their service weapon to allow for more mods.

It all adds up to some welcome twists on familiar mechanics. Who knows, maybe there will be a sequel someday!
