The college basketball star and social media influencer called his followers to Lady Bird Johnson Park on the Northeast Side on Sunday afternoon.
A crowd of more than 3,000 people was dispersed by San Antonio police at a Northeast Side park after they were called there by TikTok influencer Cam Wilder.
A former college basketball player from Arizona, Wilder rose to fame posting comedy skits on TikTok, where he has more than 5 million followers. This weekend, he uploaded a video of himself dancing and saying “San Antonio we outside tomorrow,” adding that he would be at Lady Bird Johnson Park at 10700 Nacogdoches Rd. at 6 p.m. Sunday
By 5:30 p.m., San Antonio police were receiving calls from park-goers complaining about a chaotic scene: Vehicles were blocked in and couldn't get out, while others were still attempting to enter.
Videos uploaded to TikTok show hundreds of teens and young adults gathered and packed at the basketball court and at the social media influencer’s vans.
Police said the crowd of more than 3,000 people posed an imminent threat to public safety. People were ordered to clear the park.
Eventually, Wilder and his group left in their vans, and the crowd dispersed slowly and peacefully. No arrests were made, but two people needed medical attention. One had a heat-related illness and another fell near a pool, suffering a laceration to the head.
