General Atomics
TYSONS CORNER, VA, March 17, 2021 — The U.S. Army employed a General Atomics-made suite of standalone software applications during the acceptance flight tests of a Gray Eagle Extended Range unmanned aircraft system to validate if the system could enable the service branch to achieve “supervised autonomy” in support of its aircraft operators, ExecutiveBiz reported Thursday.
“The [Scalable Command and Control] software could be part of the Army’s Ground Modernization plan replacing the Universal Ground Control Station with rugged laptops and tactical servers enabling more mobile operations in a defined Modular Open Systems Approach framework,” said J.R. Reid, vice president of strategic development at General Atomics’ aeronautical systems business.
SC2 was installed on an Army-owned computer and was used to control the UAS for almost four hours.
