Crowd gathers at Capitol Square, celebrates Joe Biden's election win - WSAW

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A crowd gathered at Madison’s Capitol Square Saturday morning in celebration of Joe Biden being declared the next President of the United States.

Cars honked as they drove around the square, as supporters also cheered with Biden-Harris flags.

“The last four years have felt like a nightmare." one supporter said as he danced. "It feels validating that we live in a community that accepts each other. It’s a big win today.”

Vivian Wong, who voted for the Biden ticket, said, “It’s kind of giving us the American dream again. It was fading before. I guess it’s coming back to life. There’s some hope. There’s a chance for us.”

On the other side of the Square, Trump supporters were not happy with the result, though some said the votes spoke for themselves.

“The outcome obviously isn’t quite what we had hoped for. But as it is, the people have spoken. We are kind of happy though, hoping that at least there will be a split government and that the [GOP] will maintain control [of the Senate]," Michael Sullivan said.

Opportunity Wisconsin was already at the State Capitol when the news of Biden’s projected win dropped. The group was there for a press conference to discuss voter turnout. The atmosphere in the area quickly changed as new ballot counts pushed for the call of Joe Biden as President-elect.
