Third person dies after crowd crush at GloRilla concert - The Guardian

A third person has died after a crowd surge at a concert by US rapper GloRilla.

Aisha Stephens, 35, of Syracuse, had been hospitalised after the incident at the concert on Sunday evening in Rochester, New York. Two other women, Rhondesia Belton, 33, and Brandy Miller, 35, died in hospital after being injured.

Police said there were “many reports of potential causes” of the crush that occurred at the end of the concert, “including crowd size, shots fired, pepper spray and more”, but that “we do not have any evidence of gunshots being fired or anyone being shot or stabbed”. The concert venue, Main Street Armory, has had its licence revoked as an investigation takes place.

After the two deaths earlier this week, GloRilla – one of America’s fastest-rising rappers who was nominated for a Grammy last month – said she was “devastated and heartbroken”.

The incident is the latest fatal crowd crush at a concert after a similar incident at London’s Brixton Academy in December, where two people died at a concert by Asake; and in Houston in November 2021, where 10 people were killed at Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival.
